- Verona have only lost 3 of 13 home matches.
- The hosts have won their last 4 games at home.
- Napoli have failed to win at a top-half side away from home this season.
- Verona have scored 2+ goals in each of their last 4 here.
European Duo?
Napoli returned to action in the Coppa Italia, with Gennaro Gattuso leading them to their first silverware since 2014. That impressive run has turned things around for the Partenopei, who looked set to miss out on Europe in a dismal campaign under Carlo Ancelotti in late 2019.
Now Napoli have booked their Europa League spot, while Verona are hoping to do the same. The promoted side climbed into the top seven with their win on Saturday, but they could leapfrog Napoli with three points on Tuesday night. Our predictions suggest that the overachieving hosts can stop the newly crowned Coppa Italia winners.
Verona Run
The hosts were linked with relegation early in the campaign, but they’ve been a revelation since coming up from Serie B. With 10 wins in 26 games they’ve really impressed, while their home record has been stellar. Seven of those victories have come in just 13 games at this ground, losing only three. They kept that record intact even without fans, with Saturday’s 2-1 win over Cagliari their fourth successive home victory.
That’s inspired Verona’s European bid, which is built on a fine defensive record. They’ve conceded only 13 goals at home, while they’ve scored twice or more in each of their last four home matches. Could that impressive record put a dent in Napoli’s campaign after last week’s high?
Issues for Gattuso
The rise of Napoli is likely to earn Gattuso a new deal in Naples, but their cup success wasn’t entirely convincing. Inter Milan dominated the second-leg of their semi-final, which finished 1-1. A 0-0 draw with Juventus followed, so there does seem to be an opportunity for Verona here. The visitors haven’t enjoyed the greatest away record this term, having failed to beat a top-half side on the road.
With Verona in fine form we are backing them to pick up another positive result this week. We don’t think Napoli should be so heavily fancied given their mixed displays in the cup. Verona burst back into form with a weekend victory and we are backing them to avoid defeat here. Verona Double Chance is our first tip, while we’re backing a 2-1 home win in our correct score prediction.
