- Bayer Leverkusen have won ten of their last 15 matches in the Bundesliga.
- Cologne’s matches have featured an average of 3.45 goals per game this season.
- Both teams have scored in Cologne’s last eight matches in the league.
Bayer Leverkusen could be breached
Bayer Leverkusen have suffered heavy defeats in each of their last two home contests in the Bundesliga and, although they should see off Cologne at the BayArena, they could conceded a consolation goal.
Leverkusen’s Champions League aspirations have suffered a setback after only one win in their last four games.
They suffered 4-1 and 4-2 home defeats to Wolfsburg and Bayern Munich as part of that run but have nonetheless still won seven of their previous 11 matches.
And they have looked comfortable against the division’s lesser lights, beating Union Berlin, Augsburg and Werder Bremen as part of that run so they should run out winners against Cologne, who are yet to win since the Bundesliga’s resumption.
Cologne struggling to recapture new year form
The Billy Goats enjoyed a strong start to the Ruckrunde – the second half of the Bundesliga season – but are winless in their last seven matches, losing to Borussia Monchengladbach, Hoffenheim, Leipzig and, last time out, Union Berlin.
They did however win the shot count 10-5 against Berlin, amassing 59 per cent possession, and Jhon Cordoba’s goal in injury time extended their scoring run to 17 matches in the Bundesliga.
Both teams have scored in their last eight contests, reiterating that although they can count on Córdoba, Jonas Hector, Sebastian Bornauw, Florian Kainz and Mark Uth for goals, they have been permeable at the back.
They have kept only one clean sheet in their 15 matches on the road this season and only six in their 31 fixtures in total and Leverkusen can take full advantage on home soil.
They have netted 28 times in their 15 home league contests, of which they have lost only four, and midfield virtuoso Kai Havertz should once again feature in the starting lineup now he’s back to full fitness.
Top-heavy outfits can play out high-scoring clash
Havertz has netted five goals in his last five league appearance but is also supported by the likes of Lucas Alario and Leon Bailey in the final third.
They can help their side to maximum points in what is expected to be a high-scoring contest.
While Cologne’s away matches in the Bundesliga have featured an average of 3.6 goals per game this term, both teams have scored in nine of Leverkusen’s 15 home matches in the league in 2019/20.
With that in mind, our match prediction is a Leverkusen win and both teams to score.
As for a correct score prediction, it is worth noting that Leverkusen have won by two clear goals on five occasions this season, beating Borussia Monchengladbach and Fortuna Dusseldorf by a 3-1 scoreline, which could be the best bet.
